We continue into August with one of the nicest summers in recent memory…cool evenings and 85 degree afternoons and perfect mornings for exploring the hill towns. Our last group was actually two groups put together: Carol Duchamp and her Bay Area
Art Trek painters, and a group of artists from North Carolina lead by Fritz Kapraun and Virginia Wright-Frierson. The groups melded beautifully and trans-continental friendships flourished. Carol paints colorful mystic abstracts while Fritz specializes
in en plein air watercolors and Ginny is a consummate sketch-to-finished-painting professional. Helpful critiques and pointers were available everywhere the participants turned. Fritz returns next year to team teach with Bob Rankin in one of our most popular programs.
We have also newly signed session with the amazing Kay Russell, just retired from her career as professor of art at San Francisco City College, and a fixture in the Bay Area arts scene. Check the site in coming days for details.
The new generations of the La Romita family are visiting Italy right now: Ben and Enza’s son Lars with his wife Francesca, (the girl next door to La Romita as Lars was growing up) and their son Giulio, a gregarious 7 year-old with dizzying language skills.
I now have a few days off so I got a chance to go to the beach with my son and take him to the airport for his return to school in California. Today is the summer holiday in Italy, Ferragosto.
Augurissimi!
I visited LaRomita with Arlene Krogstag’s 2003 class. Last year while doing paintings for a miniature show in Colorado, I referred to two scenes from my photos taken that year. Both paintings were accepted into the juried show. While trying to come up with subjects for this year’s show a friend said “do more European scenes people enjoyed the ones you painted last year”. Always such good memories of the time spent at LaRomita.
