Artist Holly Nowak, a native Texan, infuses her art with a blend of realism and whimsy, drawing inspiration from the natural beauty of animals the variety of Texas landscapes, and from her travels. Creating art from her home studio just outside of Houston, Holly gleans creative inspiration from her pets, beloved chickens, wildlife, and her pollinator and vegetable gardens.
Holly operates her professional art studio and gallery at Sawyer Yards in Downtown Houston in Houston‘s Historical Arts District, the largest creative community in the United States. Holly not only creates art, but also imparts her expertise through workshops, art classes and gallery Exhibitions for collectors and the public alike.
A transformative trip to Italy and La Romita with a friend in 2023 revealed new artistic horizons for Holly when she discovered natural organic pigments in a historical art shop in Rome. This experience ignited a fresh direction in her artistic journey, particularly working with watercolor, a passion she is eager to share with fellow artists. Her incorporation of natural organic materials to create her own watercolor pigments has added depth and context to her work, creating connections between subject and nature.
Holly’s intuitive approach to art fosters a sense of freedom of expression alleviating the common struggles, such as self-doubt and inspiration overload that many artist feel. Her goal is to provide a supportive and informative environment for artist of all skill levels, guiding them through the creative process of painting with organic watercolors, both in the studio and during our plein air painting excursions.
