Open Group Residency – Photography featuring Jason Dailey
Spend 10 days at La Romita devoted to your photography process.
This group art residency has been designed for photographers, featuring excursions to near by hill-towns at different times of day. You’ll have the opportunity to capture your subjects in the changing light and in a variety of environments—bright sun, shifting shade, golden hour glow, and even the challenging light most photographers avoid. You’ll find your own way to respond to light, adapt quickly, and approach each scene with curiosity and intention.
When not exploring, you will have the option to either work independently in our 16th century sanctuary turned art studio or benefit from a photography workshop with our guest instructor Jason Dailey.
Jason will introduce participants to strategies used in commercial shoots—adapting when conditions aren’t ideal, making quick decisions under pressure, and keeping images fresh even in familiar settings. Part of the practice will be noticing multiple lighting types at once – soft ambient, direct, and reflected – and choosing among them to strengthen your images.
This is a workshop for photographers of all levels who want to expand their vision, embrace exploration, and reignite the thrill of seeing the world with fresh eyes.
Jason Dailey is a photographer living in Lawrence, KS. He received a BA from the University of Kansas in 2000 and the Kress Award for Academic Achievement in the History of Photography. Jason is a commercial & editorial photographer, published nationally and internationally, he has won several awards for his editorial photography. His personal images examine the friction between our ego and the real world. Jason is concerned by the effects of the human circumstance over time, and the shift of ethics, morals and other relationships throughout a life. Recent recognition has come from IPA, Lucie Foundation, AI-AP (37, 38, 39), Midwest Center for Photography and Colorado Photographic Arts Center. Jason’s current aim is towards creating images that inspire discussion.
As La Romita School caters to multiple levels of instruction and various forms of the arts, prices will vary by session, season, instructor, and offerings.
