CAPTURING THE ESSENCE OF UMBRIAN LANDSCAPE – with Keiko Tanabe
September 25, 2022 - October 2, 2022$2650
This 7-day workshop is designed for artists who would like to strengthen their compositional skills and fill their watercolor paintings with light and atmosphere.
Keiko will demonstrate how she interprets and simplifies a scene to capture the essence of the subject, conveying a certain mood and a sense of place. Using complete, step-by-step demonstrations, Keiko will explain her methods and techniques and reveal the philosophy behind her artistic approach.
Through an introduction focusing on the fundamentals, you will get to know the materials and start to visualize the end result of your paintings through the mind’s eye. The process of simplification through visualization is instrumental in representational art and will be a continual focus of Keiko’s lessons.
Students will also explore preliminary drawing and composition, a variety of watercolor techniques in paint application and brush handling, a study of what makes a good design, understanding of the relationships between dark and light values, planning vs. intuition, and how to edit complex visual information.
Every day there will be a demonstration, plenty of one-on-one guidance, and a question-and-answer session. A class critique will be conducted at the end.
