KEEP IT SIMPLE: REVEAL THE BEAUTY OF PASTEL – with Lisa Regopoulos
June 22, 2019 - July 2, 2019$3100
Join Lisa at La Romita for 10 wonderful days capturing the hillside towns of the Umbrian region in pastel. Not only will you experience the sensation of painting on site in the breathtaking scenery, you will be immersed in the culture and hospitality of the people who live there.
Focus will be on taking your pastel painting to the next level and developing your own personal style. Lisa will set up on site for a daily demonstration and provide exercises that are critical to building your design and composition skills. You will learn how to simplify and important skills that will make your plein air painting time a successful event.
You’ll paint in the morning and late afternoon with Lisa to assist you at your easel. You’ll have leisurely lunches and excursions off the beaten path to hillside towns that aren’t filled with tourists! The group will also visit sunflower fields, a spectacular waterfall, and Roman ruins and medieval fortresses. There will be plenty of excursions to internationally known places such as Perugia and Assisi, as well as lesser known places such as Todi, Narni and Spoleto. The group will participate in wine tastings, photography, relaxation and great camaraderie!
When Realism meets Impressionism in pastel, that’s where the excitement begins for Massachusetts artist Lisa Regopoulos. That’s how she likes to paint. It need not be a specific object, but a strong shape or pleasing color harmony combined with movement and texture that get transformed into an impressionistic pastel. First impressions of a scene, life in real time, the beauty of the now are the moments she wants to capture. That is why plein air painting excites her most. Her plein air work is fresh and evokes the feeling of whatever is happening at that moment in time. It’s that emotion in her pastels that engages her viewers, causing them to linger and begging them to share in that feeling.
Her enthusiasm for pastel and plein air painting has led her to learn from some of the nation’s best Artists in pastel, watercolor and oil at the Plein Air Convention and the IAPS Convention in Albuquerque, NM. She has attended many intensive workshops in order to keep growing as an artist, and to learn about new techniques and trends. One of her favorite intensive workshops was a week of plein air pastel painting in Tuscany last May.
Working in pastel and teaching her students this versatile medium are two of her greatest passions. She has worked in the medium for twenty years and has seen incredible growth after becoming a full-time artist when her daughter entered college four years ago. Her commitment to teaching began nearly a decade ago, conducting small private classes in her home, and has evolved over the years to weekly classes at her studio in Ashby, MA, to workshops and demonstrations all over the New England Region.
