Painting the Green Heart of Italy: Umbria! – with NANCIE KING MERTZ

October 15, 2021 - October 25, 2021

A $500 deposit secures your slot in the workshop!

Nancie’s goal, as instructor, is to coach you as you paint landscape and structures, turning your efforts into dramatic, expressive paintings. Examine space, perspective, and design through practical hands-on lessons that help you build confidence.

A 1 1/2-2 hour demonstration clarifying my techniques and sharing pointers on perspective and composing a scene will be offered to start each day. Students may observe or paint-along.  Nancie will assist students one-on-one, as they paint during the day on location, or in the studio.  Depending on your comfort and skill level, you can expect to complete one or two paintings each day. Individual attention will be stressed in this experience as opposed to group lecture.

Required materials:
Assorted soft and hard pastels• Sturdy fan brush • Closed container for denatured alcohol (we will have to buy there, at a hardware store)• Shallow jar lid to dip fan brush into alcohol ● 3-6 rigid pastel panels or pastel paper taped to a rigid board, suggested 12×16” or smaller (Nancie uses UART #400 or Ampersand pastel boards) • Vine charcoal • Waxed paper or glassine and painter’s tape to wrap your finished work for transport • Wet wipes (we recommend the facial cosmetic ones) •

If purchasing pastels, Nancie’s 4 Signature Richeson sets are available from her shop. for $175 each (list is $279), or 2 for $315.  Sets can be viewed on her website for color choices.  Dakota and Judson Outfitters also sell er Urban and Atmospheric Landscape sets.  She also sells the set of 18 Richeson hards for $29 & the #6 fan brush for $10.  Shipping is additional.
