This ten-day immersive tour to the heart of Italy promises to be the sketching adventure of a lifetime, and La Romita is thrilled to be partnering with Leslie for her first Umbrian workshop.

Leslie takes a hybrid approach to teaching travel journaling. Through studio lessons in watercolor technique and sketchbook page design, Leslie will help you to build a foundation for sketching on location. In her onsite demos, she shares her process and shows how doable plein air sketching can be. And her insightful one-on-one coaching helps even novice sketchers feel successful and excited about their plein air painting experiences.
One of the best things about her workshops is the amazing full-color handbook that you’ll receive. It’s jam-packed with drawing hints, tips for plein air sketching, project ideas, font options, and an encyclopedia of border designs, PLUS a huge section of step-by-step watercolor lessons that will enable you to paint old stone buildings, vineyards, flowers, and olive trees with ease. It’s a comprehensive travel journaling course in a single volume! (She’s even included a “Travel Journaling Cheat Sheet” to help you brainstorm page design ideas every time you pull out your sketchbook!) Long after the tour, you’ll still be using the helpful painting lessons and inspiring design ideas that Leslie so generously shares in this valuable handbook.
Leslie’s workshop is designed for artists who have some experience with drawing and watercolor, but advanced skills are not necessary. Her generous one-on-one assistance will help you overcome any hurdles you encounter with drawing or painting. About LESLIE
Leslie Fehling is a watercolor artist, workshop instructor, and art blogger from western Pennsylvania. Her illustrated watercolor journals are filled with sketches that celebrate everyday life and chronicle her travel adventures.
She has taught sketchbook journaling and watercolor workshops in the US and abroad since 2014. Her unique approach to illustrated watercolor journaling and her enthusiastic teaching style have made her a sought-after instructor, and her workshops have empowered students of all skill levels to think more creatively and paint with greater confidence. She says, “I love seeing the joy and satisfaction my students experience when they begin to express themselves artistically and connect with the world on a deeper level through sketching.
