Emphasis will be on seeing and incorporating critical detail into our compositions. He is particularly interested in using watercolor images to define distinct architectural styles that immediately give us a sense of place. Fritz encourages participants to make critical observations in the preparation of preliminary plein air drawings and paintings, which can be further developed in the studio. Building on basic principles of painting: composition, design, values, edges and color, this workshop will help you paint credible and convincing architectural motifs and to create dynamic and powerful landscapes.

In this class we’ll seek inspiration for our work by combining adventures in the field exploring the hill towns and sites of Umbria with studio exercises using texts and images to create a unique artists book.
