La Romita Residency Program
La Romita now offers a single residency program for artists and writers.
The residency provides artists and writers a perfect retreat-like experience with uninterrupted time to pursue their own independent projects. There are also opportunities to explore the nearby hill-towns for inspiration, cultural exploration, or to re-focus their energies to their artistic pursuit.
Residents will be given a private apartment for the duration of their residency and full access to La Romita, including the two dedicated studio spaces. (if 2 residents apply for the same time slot, our residency coordinator will work with both artists to determine which studio will be assigned to which artist based on their project descriptions)
Given that La Romita is not within a town and there is no easy pedestrian access to shops, the residency fee includes opportunities to go to town for groceries or supplies.
Further arrangements can be made for additional trips into Terni or to other nearby towns by car, or car rental can be arranged (though not covered) in order to give a resident the freedom they need.
In order to support residents as they pursue their projects, 1 hot meal will be provided daily (regional cuisine prepared by our staff cooks) and a selection of cold items for breakfast and another meal. Most dietary restrictions can be accommodated.
Fee: $425/Week
Partners are allowed (additional $200/week)
Number of Artists in residence at one time: Up to two
Resident Fee provides:
- Private Accommodations (with bath)
- 1 cooked meal per day
- Access to one or both Studios*
- Access to kitchen
- 2 trips into town per week for shopping
Not Covered:
- Travel costs to/from La Romita
- Personal supplies
- Car rental or trips beyond what’s mentioned above
*if two there are 2 concurrent residencies, each resident will be assigned a studio based on the requirements of their project.
Residents have unrestricted access to La Romita’s grounds, including the refettorio (dining area), partially enclosed gazebo, orchards, and gardens.
APARTMENT
Residents will be housed in either the Torre apartment (2 rooms + private bath) or the Foresteria Studio Apartment (1 large room + private bath).
While neither apartment has a kitchen, access will be provided to the main Kitchen and Refettorio (dinning area), and small appliances (E.G. coffee makers) can be provided.
STUDIO
Residents will have access to La Romita’s studio spaces, which include the stunning Chapel-Studio and the intimate StudioEnza space which includes a printing press.
If a resident is working on a messy project in the Chapel-Studio, we ask that they put down floor covering to protect the brickwork.
2024 Dates
Residencies are available during the following periods:
- July 7 – Aug 15
- Oct 22 – Dec 15
Residencies can be 1-4 weeks.
