Ming Franz specializes in Splash Ink with Watercolor and Acrylic painting. The foundation of the Splash Ink and Watercolor painting process is based on principles originating in Tang Dynasty China with a technique known as Po Mo.
In her workshop, Ming will show how to apply the various steps of the Splash Ink process using both watercolor and acrylics. You will leave the workshop understanding the fundamentals of the process, the full start-to-finish technique, and have ideas on how to apply those techniques to your own representational or abstract art.
On the first day, Ming will demo the Splash Ink & Watercolor process: explaining the materials, mixing Asian ink and primary watercolors, and controlled pouring. Students will then experiment with the technique on rice paper, and on following days, learn various ways to finish their paintings, considering their artwork and “listening to the colors”.
In the Splash Acrylic Pouring Workshop, Ming will demonstrate acrylic pouring on canvas, and how to mix the process with other mediums and techniques to create beautiful paintings. Ming will also be happy to show the basics of Chinese brush painting (Sumi-e).
