SPLASH INK WITH WATERCOLOR AND ACRYLIC – with Ming Franz

September 13, 2022 - September 23, 2022

$3600

Ming Franz specializes in Splash Ink with Watercolor and Acrylic painting. The foundation of the Splash Ink and Watercolor painting process is based on principles originating in Tang Dynasty China with a technique known as Po Mo.

In her workshop, Ming will show how to apply the various steps of the Splash Ink process using both watercolor and acrylics. You will leave the workshop understanding the fundamentals of the process, the full start-to-finish technique, and have ideas on how to apply those techniques to your own representational or abstract art.

On the first day, Ming will demo the Splash Ink & Watercolor process: explaining the materials, mixing Asian ink and primary watercolors, and controlled pouring. Students will then experiment with the technique on rice paper, and on following days, learn various ways to finish their paintings, considering their artwork and “listening to the colors”.

In the Splash Acrylic Pouring Workshop, Ming will demonstrate acrylic pouring on canvas, and how to mix the process with other mediums and techniques to create beautiful paintings. Ming will also be happy to show the basics of Chinese brush painting (Sumi-e).

About Ming

Ming Franz is widely recognized for her “splash” painting which combines primary watercolor and Chinese ink. In recent years she has experimented with acrylics on watercolor paper, canvas, and panels, developing her award-winning skills. Among the many awards she has received is the esteemed Grand Prize in the International Artist magazine’s challenge in Abstract /Experimental Art.

The artist was born in Taiwan where she discovered her talent at an early age. She has traveled and studied art for decades and has become a sought-after instructor. She now resides in New Mexico. She, like Georgia O’Keeffe, one of her favorite artists, has been transformed by the pristine desert light and the stunning Southwest landscape.

Ming is a faculty member of the New Mexico Art League.  She is a Signature Member of the New Mexico Watercolor Society, Golden Paints Company Certified Artist and Educator, and member of the National Watercolor Society, Sumi-e Society of America, Chinese American Art Development Foundation, and the American Society Association of Chinese Art.
